Welcome

if its tough to be a homeless pet, its a really rough road for a homeless senior pet.  all too often, they are passed over by adopters .... some who worry about the potential vet bills ... some don't believe that they 'can teach an old dog new tricks' ... while others are reluctant to give their hearts to a pet who may not have fifteen years of love left to offer.

yet one kind heart at a time, people are beginning to discover the special joys and rewards of adopting a senior pet:

bullet

active families who do not have time for housetraining, obedience classes and socialization are still able to have the companionship of a pet

bullet

parents are discovering that senior pets are often more patient and trustworthy with younger children

bullet

people who have lost their own senior pet after years of love and devotion can find it too much of an adjustment to bring a puppy or a kitten into their homes

bullet

anyone adopting a senior pet has the satisfaction of knowing their compassion has saved a life that was at real risk

bullet

and of course ... last but definitely not least ... senior pets like sleeping through the night as much as you do!

senior pets are more experienced at love

part of the Zen of older pets is that they do not bring our human hangups to the table.  they are old enough and wise enough to appreciate the value of a second chance at love

the nova scotia senior pet project hopes to

bullet

showcase the lovely senior pets available for adoption in nova scotia

bullet

help nova scotia families find new homes for senior pets when their guardians pass away or have to go into special care

bullet

advertise the need for both short term and palliative care foster homes, and of course

bullet

to provide information to help pet owners keep their own pets for life

embrace the love without the sleepless nights

There is nothing wrong with wanting an easy life.  If you like sleeping though the night and don't have time to housetrain, adopting a senior pet might be a very good fit for you.
